G&H staff took to the water as part of a charity fundraising event organised by the Rotary Club of Wakefield and Huddersfield Rotary Club.
The annual Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge took place on the lake at Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield and raised over £30,000 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and participants’ own charities.
HB Projects Ltd invited us to take part and after a shaky start that saw our staff lose the first race, we bounced back to win the last two.
Team Captain, Dale Burton, said: “Over 20 members of staff attended plus lots of friends and families for support and they enjoyed a great day out raising nearly £2,000.
“Given it was the first time we had taken part in the event, we did really well to win two of the three races.
“Everyone had a really enjoyable time and it’s a fantastic event that we are looking forward to supporting and taking part in again next year so we can raise even more money for charity.”
Some 33 teams competed and 700 rowers raced three times over a 230-metre course with the fastest six taking part in the grand final that was won by Team Premdor. Around 3,000 people attended the event including the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr June Cliffe and the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Paul Kane.
Over £180,000 has been raised for local and national charities since the event started seven years ago.
