G&H Sustainability’s solar scheme saves Yorkshire Event Centre £20,000-a-year

Solar panels installed on the roof of the largest single events space in Yorkshire will save over £20,000-a-year in electricity.

G&H Sustainability installed a 250kW solar PV system on Hall 1 at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate.

The new building provides an additional 4,320m2 of exhibition space forming a centrepiece for the Great Yorkshire Showground.

G&H Sustainability installed some 960 solar panels across a roof space of 1,561m2.

As well as the financial benefits, it will save over 190,000kWh of energy a year.

Andrew Hudson, Director at G&H Sustainability, said: “As specialists, we were appointed by the project contractor, TClarke, to provide an efficient solution to the venue complying with building and planning regulations.

“In addition to this, the vast 250kW solar PV system will save Yorkshire Event Centre significantly on energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint.

“The scheme was instrumental in the building achieving a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating when its energy efficiency performance was assessed reiterating the key role solar plays in energy reduction strategies.”

Heather Parry, Managing Director at Yorkshire Event Centre, said: “The sustainability of this exciting new build was instrumental from the outset and we are delighted with what has been achieved.”
