G&H provides infrastructure at UK’s Puy du Fou theme park

G&H Building Services is on-site delivering a mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure package at a 7.5-acre outdoor night show spectacular in County Durham – the largest of its kind in the UK.

Caddick Construction appointed G&H Building Services in a £1.5 million contract as it builds the Eleven Arches family-friendly attraction in Bishop Auckland.

Eleven Arches has been inspired by the internationally acclaimed Puy du Fou medieval theme park in France that has been running for 37 years and attracts over two million people a year.

The UK show has been named ‘Kynren – An Epic Tale Of England’ and will re-create 2,000 years of the North East’s history in just 90 minutes.

Visitors will sit in an 8,000-seat grandstand amphitheatre in the dark with evocative surround-sound music played as a 1,000-strong cast presents pyrotechnics, spectacular lighting and water effects.

The show will also feature trains, horses, an artificial lake with full-size boats and water jets, and a 400m wide stage – all set in the shadow of the Grade One-listed Auckland Castle.

G&H Building Services is designing, building and installing a complex M&E infrastructure package.

High voltage cabling, hot and cold water supplies, the lake hydrant system and drainage are among the services being installed and co-ordinated.

It will also provide services to 14 ancillary buildings including the clubhouse, toilets, changing areas, refreshment kiosks, ticket office, train shed and technology suite.

Pre-Construction Director at G&H Building Services, David Davis, said: “This is a large scale M&E project that requires us to co-ordinate a number of complex systems across a 7.5-acre site and deliver to a pressing deadline – the first show is on 2 July.

“As an elaborate and lavish public display, there is no margin for error in any of the infrastructure power systems we are installing so we have built in resilience to ensure no failures.

“A lot of thought has been given to the services we have designed.

“For example, we are taking a ‘temporary permanent’ approach giving the site management team the ability to work at low power when the show is not being performed.

“Once complete, the theme park will have the best building services to deliver spectacular events.”
