G&H progressing first phase of £280m mixed-use LU2ON Union scheme
G&H Building Services is progressing the initial works at a £280 million mixed-use development project named LU2ON Union.
The development by Strawberry Star Homes sees G&H providing mechanical, electrical and public health design (MEP) services.
Phase one sees a new build comprising 401 residential apartments where first fix containment and first ductwork installations are underway.
The marketing apartment is now fully fixed awaiting dry lining closures to allow second fix MEP services to be carried out.
Sprinkler and smoke ventilation systems are due to start shortly along with sub-main supplies being installed into each apartment.
Appointed by the main contractor JJ Rhatigan, G&H Building Services is using Revit 3D modelling throughout the project.
Other work includes electrical heating to apartments, power distribution, fire alarms and heat recovery ventilation.
Domestic services and drainage are also being provided.
G&H’s initial works are now well underway
Senior Contracts Manager at G&H Building Services, Paul Cuss, said: “This is a hugely important development for Luton, its people, businesses and the surrounding area.
“Work is progressing well already and once completed, our MEP services will provide the ideal environment for those living in the apartments.”
The land is a former Vauxhall site on the town centre’s edge which is being radically transformed.
Subsequent stages of the LU2ON project will feature a hotel, public park, a retail and leisure complex, bars and restaurants.
The work is part of Luton’s £1.5 billion investment framework that includes a new football and concert stadium, transformation of London Luton Airport, a 395-acre enterprise zone, improved public transport facilities and expansion of its cultural quarter.
