£2.2m M&E appointment for G&H Building Services at new 600-pupil academy

G&H Building Services has been appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical works for a new 600-pupil school in Bradford.

Brontë Girls Academy will see former 1980s Bradford Council offices in Bolling Road transformed into a new secondary school.

G&H Building Services was appointed by the main contractor BAM Construction in a £2.2 million contract as part of a £10.5 million scheme.

Its work will see the designing and installing of mechanical and electrical services for all parts of the academy.

This will include classrooms, staffrooms, office areas, main hall, sports hall, kitchen and external areas such as parking and entry points.

Mechanical services will see heating, ventilation and air conditioning, above ground drainage, cold and hot water, sanitary ware, low temperature hot water, natural gas service, cooling and a building management system installed.

Electrically, an incoming low voltage supply, distribution boards, containment systems, LED lighting (internal, external and emergency), general power, alarms, hearing induction loop, data, access controls, CCTV and an audio visual system will be fitted.

Contracts Manager at G&H Building Services, Neil Blunt, said: “Our designs are bespoke to the people who will be using the school – pupils, staff and visitors – to create the best possible facilities for teaching and learning.

“The specialist mechanical and electrical services we are installing will provide the perfect environment for learning with intuitive temperature controls and a high-tech audio visual system while LED lighting will help reduce the academy’s carbon footprint.”

Designated as a Free School, Brontë Girls Academy will be open to pupils aged between 11 and 16 and managed by Feversham Education Trust.

G&H Building Services expects to complete its work in the summer.
