G&H Building Services has become one of the earliest adopters of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the M&E sector.
Daniel Brook has been appointed as specialist BIM Manager to lead its development, implementation and training.
He is experienced in AutoCAD design and is also a qualified HVAC engineer, which is a valuable combination enabling him to provide comprehensive understanding when using BIM.
The commitment to BIM is driven by the need to position G&H Building Services at the forefront of the M&E sector ready to comply with the government directive that from 2016 all companies bidding for local authority construction contracts have to use Level 2 BIM.
G&H Pre-Construction Director, David Davis, said: “BIM is more than just being the latest software generating data. It enables teams to plan and integrate processes with the appropriate technologies that make it work.
“It brings about a cultural shift in the way the team thinks and works together.
“The early involvement of BIM will save time and money while ensuring any conflicting approaches by different parties can be ironed out during the pre-construction period.
“For example, it helps M&E specialists like us highlight and detail the locations of HVAC systems and avoid nasty surprises arising on site due to changes in other specialist fields such as structural steelwork.
“We are among the first building services companies to introduce BIM and we are keen to exploit all of the advantages it brings to the wider construction team and ultimately to the client.
“Everyone’s understanding of the scope of works is increasing and this will allow different disciplines to focus on shared targets and add more certainty to the procurement process.”
