G&H closes Leicester Square to complete UK’s first Bubba Gump Restaurant

  • 6th October 2014

G&H Building Services closed one of London’s busiest locations as it completed its work on the UK’s first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant.

Leicester Square was closed for a night as G&H Building Services carried out the mechanical building services element of a major refurbishment in part of the historic London Trocadero building.

The work to transform the former Planet Hollywood venue was carried out by G&H Building Services for contracting, manufacturing and shop-fitting specialist, PEC.

In order to carry out the ventilation and cooling works, a crane lift was required to remove the redundant plant items from the roof of the building before replacing them with a new, high-efficient air handling plant and condensing units.

Other features saw G&H Building Services install an air source heat pump to serve the domestic hot water cylinders.

Situated in the London Trocadero centre, the intricate scheme saw G&H Building Services working around existing tenants in order to complete the work in time for the American seafood chain’s official opening on 1 October.

Pre-Construction Director at G&H Building Services, David Davis, said: “This was a high pressure project that required meticulous planning and execution.

“We faced many challenges including working around existing tenants to minimise disruption and comply with noise restrictions, overcoming Central London logistics and carrying out a major operation throughout the night closing Leicester Square to deliver the scheme for the 1 October opening.

“It is a good reflection of where we are as a business that we continue to exceeded all expectations on these challenging schemes.

“It is the latest in a long line of prestigious contracts we have successfully completed in the capital following on from our work on schemes including the Battersea Power Station redevelopment, 10 Trinity Square, LAX Fitness at the St Botolph Building, Victoria House, Premier Inn at Hyde House and University College London Hospitals.

“All these schemes saw us work sympathetically in old and very iconic buildings carrying out ‘just in time’ project management to deliver a seamless project despite no on-site storage facilities, a small delivery area and limited access.”

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant opened in 1996 in California and now has locations across the United States and internationally.
