Two divisions of the G&H Group appointed to independent extra care and dementia facility

G&H Building Services has been appointed to a specialist housing development that will help older people and residents with dementia to live more independently.

Appointed by the main contractor energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE in a £2.2 million contract, G&H Building Services will design and build all the components needed to power the new facility in Brighouse.

Once completed, the 65-bed independent living scheme will be managed by not-for-profit housing association Home Group and looked after by G&H Maintenance for an initial 12-month period.

The development will see a range of one and two-bed apartments available for residents with central communal facilities including a kitchen, lounges, hair salon, coffee shop and winter garden.

G&H Building Services will design and install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water, sprinklers, fire alarms, CCTV, data, small power, access control, a warden call system, lightning protection, smoke vents and gas works.

Contract Manager at G&H Building Services, Dale Burton, said: “We have a proven track record of designing and installing mechanical and electrical systems for extra care facilities such as this and our experience will see residents, their carers and staff benefit from services tailored to their specific needs.

“We have recently worked at the new Buxton Extra Care facility and at the Building Research Establishment in Watford developing services for its dementia-friendly house.

“The aim of our work for this scheme is to create a comfortable and relaxing living environment with services such as lighting, heating and power made as easy to use as possible.

“This is a very important scheme especially for older people and those with dementia as it will help them to live more independent lives.”

Calderdale Council gave planning permission earlier this year to redevelop the site formally known as Salford Works.

G&H Building Services’ work will start onsite in March next year and finish in December 2019.
