Caddick Construction appoints G&H in £5m M&E contract for Headingley Stadium

G&H Building Services has been appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical design and build of Headingley Stadium’s £40 million redevelopment.

The scheme sees Yorkshire County Cricket Club, rugby league side Leeds Rhinos and rugby union side Yorkshire Carnegie working together.

It will see a new South Stand on the rugby ground and a new joint stand overlooking both the rugby pitch and cricket ground.

The main contractor, Caddick Construction, appointed G&H Building Services in a £5 million contract.

G&H Building Services will design and install full heating, domestic services, above ground drainage, gas supplies, ventilation, air conditioning and a building management system.

Lighting, power, fire alarms, security systems, AV, PA, CCTV, data and door access will also be carried out.

The services will be installed in both the spectator facing parts of the cricket and rugby stands including new banqueting and corporate suites as well as underneath where changing rooms, treatment areas and offices will be housed.

Senior Contracts Manager at G&H Building Services, David Wilson, said: “Headingley is an iconic stadium globally in the worlds of both cricket and rugby so this is a hugely important project.

“It is a significant contract for us and follows the excellent work we have previously delivered with Caddick Construction over many years.

“The building services we will design and install will be bespoke and state-of-the-art focusing on the various end users making sure they benefit the players, spectators and club staff to create the best environment for years to come.”

Demolition of the rugby South Stand will start at the end of August with construction work beginning in September.

Once complete, the South Stand will have capacity of 7,700 with 2,200 being seated.

The combined stand will be razed to the ground at the end of September with the new version having 4,200 seats for cricket and 3,800 facing the rugby pitch.
